The South Korean conductor & composer Hyun-Jin Yun is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting musicians of his generation.
Yun is the Winner of the 3rd. International Conducting Competition "Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest" in 2012 where he also received Special Award of the "George Enescu" Philharmonic Orchestra. He also took 2nd. place at the International Competition for Young Conductors "Jovens Maestro" in Lisbon and was a quarter-finalist at the 53. Concours international de jeunes chefs d'orchestre de Besancon.
Yun has worked as conductor with many orchestras in Europe, including Hamburger Symphoniker, Baden-Badener Philharmonie, South-West German Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Lorraine National Orchestra, Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, among others. In recent seasons, he has been invited to conduct several concerts and festivals, such as 2015 Easter Opera Gala Concert at the Romanian Athenaeum, 21st. Musical Olympus Festival in St. Petersburg and 2015/16 subscription concert of the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest.
In Korea, Yun made his debut with KBS Symphony Orchestra in 2016, where he conducted a concert for contemporary music program, since then he has conducted Busan Philharmonic, Gunpo Prime Philharmonic, MBC Symphony Orchestra and Ensemble TIMF. He was chosen as best participant at the conducting master class with Myung-Whun Chung and Seoul Philharmonic, which is given him invitation as guest conductor to outreach symphonic concert and educational concert in 2016-17 seasons.
As a composer Yun won several awards at numerous international competitions, including 2015 WDR Orchester-Werkstatt in Cologne, 7th. ARKO (Arts Council Korea) Composition Festival in Seoul, 3rd. International Composition Competition of the City of Homburg in Germany, among others. Yun's compositions have been performed by WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne, Tonkunstler-Orchestra, Gyeonggi Philharmonic, Seong-Nam Philharmonic and Ensemble TIMF in Korea. Since 2016 his music is published by Babel Scores in Paris.
Yun studied composition and conducting at the Hanyang University in Seoul. He completed his Master of Music in conducting at the Hochschule fur Musik und darstellende Kunst Mannheim and post-graduate studies (Konzertexamen) in conducting with highest distinction at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Hamburg in Germany. During his studies, he received scholarships from Oscar and Vera Ritter-Foundation, Franz-Wirth-Memorial-Foundation and Johannes Brahms-Foundation in Hamburg and Ministry of Culture des Landes Brandenburg.
Yun was Artistic Director of the University Orchestra at the Leuphana University Luneburg, Principal Conductor of the Junge Marburger Philharmonie in Germany and Music Director of the contemporary music series at the Koran Culture Centre in Berlin.
Since October 2017 Hyun-Jin Yun is Assistant Conductor of the KBS Symphony Orchestra in Seoul.
